Launching the new year 2023/2024

Shooting studios of Sauvages ! in Martigny
During this inaugural week, students in the Cinéma Department had the chance to discover the set of Claude Barras’ film Sauvages ! in Martigny, Valais, as well as a number of films in the presence of the crews of each of them at Cinéma Spoutnik in Geneva.
In Martigny, the students met members of the Sauvages ! team, who showed them around the film’s studios. Today, these animation studios are the largest developed in Switzerland.

At Spoutnik, Nathalie Berger, director and assistant in the Department, presented her film Chagrin Valley. This film was awarded the Prix de la Compétition Nationale by SRG SSR at this year’s Festival Visions du Réel. Tizian Büchi presented his film L’îlot and his installation Entrer dans l’îlot. The film Mille feux was also screened and presented by some of the film’s crew. Director Saeed Taji Farouky, mixer Maxence Ciekawy and co-producer Palmyre Badinier shared their experiences of making the film. The film Unrueh, in competition for the Prix du Cinéma Suisse and winner of the Best Director award in the Encounters section at Berlinale 2022, was presented by director Cyril Schaüblin.
Finally, on Friday morning, a meeting with the Foudre team was organized in the presence of director Carmen Jaquier, lead actress Lilith Grasmug, producer Flavia Zanon, cinematographer Marine Atlan and composer Nicolas Rabaeus. Foudre won the Best Sound Award and Nicolas Rabaeus the Best Music Award at the Prix du Cinéma Suisse 2023.
