Gemma Sandrine Ushengewe

Gemma Ushengewe, born in 1995, is a filmmaker, editor and video artist residing in Geneva, Switzerland. At the end of her Bachelor of Cinema at HEAD in 2020, Gemma directed The Black Hedgehog, a documentary and experimental film that talks about the structural racism experienced by the Afro-descendant community. The filmmaker is interested in the reappropriation of narration through documentary and fictional cinema and experimental cinema. In 2021, she is pursuing a research master’s degree in critical, curatorial and cybernetic studies at HEAD. She thus links theory and practice around the issues of society that interests her : such as structural racism, neocolonialism and their forms of emancipation.
