Sophie Dascal

Sophie Dascal obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Philosophy in 2013, followed by a Master’s degree in Film History and Aesthetics in 2015, both at the University of Lausanne (CH). She established herself as an independent filmmaker and video artist in Geneva (CH) in 2018, having completed studies in filmmaking at HEAD-Geneva (CH). During her three years of studies, she directed several documentary essay films and experimented video installation as part of her one-year exchange at the Kassel Kunsthochschule (D), where she exhibited her installation Decadence during documenta14. In addition to her personal projects, she works as a director of photography, notably on the films of Justine Fabre, Entre le ciel et la terre, Madeleine after thirty, selected in several festivals, and Jaizkibel, shot in April 2019. Her diploma film Angor Pectoris was selected in festivals among others Visions du Réel International Film Festival (CH) in 2019, where she won the META Cultural Foundation Award.
